India Commemorates Seventy-Seventh Republic Day
India celebrated its 77th Republic Day with a grand parade in New Delhi, highlighting the nation’s military strength. For the first time, India’s Russian-made S-400 air defense system was displayed publicly, alongside T-90 tanks and BrahMos missiles.
The country also revealed its hypersonic long-range anti-ship missile (LRAShM), which it claims can reach over 1,500 kilometers at speeds of Mach 10.
President Droupadi Murmu was joined by European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, arriving in a traditional buggy escorted by the President’s Bodyguard, the Indian Army’s elite regiment.
The parade route between Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace, and the National War Memorial was lavishly decorated for the occasion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects at the memorial.
In a post on X, Modi said the Republic Day, which marks the adoption of India’s constitution in 1950, strengthens the nation’s shared commitment to becoming a developed country.
