Hotel Fire Kills at Least Twenty-One in India’s New Delhi
The incident occurred in the Malviya Nagar area in the morning hours, with the blaze breaking out at approximately 8:50 a.m. local time (0320 GMT). According to reports, emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene as the fire engulfed a multi-story building.
Police confirmed that at least 21 fatalities have been recorded, while more than 40 individuals were rescued from the building and transferred to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
Authorities said the fire was eventually brought under control after containment efforts by emergency response teams.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated on social media that emergency services were mobilized immediately and that rescue and relief operations were ongoing, while the government continues to monitor the situation closely.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as “tragic,” offering condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a speedy recovery for those injured. He also noted that authorities are providing assistance to those affected.
According to reports, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are underway.
