India Halts Starlink Launch Over Security Concerns
The report said security agencies under India’s Ministry of Home Affairs have not granted the final clearances required for SpaceX’s satellite internet service to launch in the market, based on information from sources familiar with the matter.
Officials are said to be concerned about the use of Starlink terminals in conflict zones during the Middle East war, despite the service not being officially licensed for use in Iran. This has raised questions in New Delhi about regulatory control over a US-based operator during periods of geopolitical tension.
In 2025, Indian telecom firms Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio signed agreements with SpaceX to introduce Starlink services in India, signaling initial steps toward commercial rollout.
The delay has also reportedly affected broader satellite spectrum pricing approvals, which are required for both foreign and domestic operators. While the Department of Telecommunications has completed the framework, it has not yet been submitted for final Cabinet approval.
